Risking Ruin Pig Barley Book 1 eBook Mae Wood Reviews
3.5-4 stars. Marisa Tanner is getting ready to handle a big lawsuit for one of her high end clients and discovers that the new General Counsel that she will be working with is Trip Brannon. They've never met before but Marisa knows his type and doesn't delude herself into thinking that he is serious about her. Not to mention the conflict of interest. I really loved Trip, he was immediately smitten and despite his reputation, went out of his way to treat Marisa like gold. While Marisa's musings are entertaining and relatable, they are a tad neurotic at times, too. Also, she would tell herself to resist and then all it would take is one sentence without twisting her elbow and then she'd crumble to Trip's charm. I expected her to hold out a bit more if she's going through all that trouble to talk herself into being strong so that was a bit anticlimactic repeatedly. Otherwise, I liked their relationship dynamic and chemistry, there was certainly no lack of that.
This book was a breath of fresh air! I really enjoyed Marissa and Trip's story. You know how I love a strong female lead, Marissa fits the bill being both bold and loyal. I love that she is an independent, strong character but not above dismissing her own faults.
For those looking for a swoony Southern gentleman, enter Trip.
The story is filled with amazing details from places to fashion (I love that), and you feel as if you are sitting in the room watching the story unfold.
The steamy scenes were passionate, and the chemistry between Marissa and Trip sizzles on the pages.
Strong story-line with a lovable ensemble cast of characters.
Risking Ruin is smartly written and completely addictive. Highly recommended read.
Wonderfully done Mae Wood.
I'm a huge romance novel reader, but it seems I gravitate toward younger characters, because this story was a delightful change for me. I can't remember the last time I read a novel with thirty-something year-old characters. The fact that the heroine is an established attorney who has no intention of giving up her career is a big plus for me. I'd love to see more heroines in stories who are in successful professional careers. I'm a writer, but by day I'm also an accountant, so I can appreciate the business setting. Besides the main love story, I was fascinated with the side plot of the case the hero and heroine were working on together. Getting a glimpse into the legal profession was intriguing, and it was clear the author knew what she was talking about. Other than that, there was an underlying current of hot chemistry between Marisa and Trip that got my blood flowing! I'm going to dive right into Borrowing Trouble, which continues this smart and sexy love story!
4.25 Mae Wood is a new author to me. I have been recommended to read her books by a fellow author and other readers. I was pleasantly surprised !
This book is written in third person which I did not know. Not that I don't enjoy third person POV, but rarely can some authors can execute. Ms. Wood is truly the exception.
Some may have issues with attorney and client hooking up, but it does happen in the real world. The heart wants what the heart wants. Remember people, this is fiction, but Ms. wood handled it well and in proper manner.
You will fall in love with Trip. I loved Marissa's sassiness although at times can get into her own head, but she eventually came around.
If you're looking for a new author, Ms. Wood is a great person to start with, her writing is witty and strong with the perfect amount of sexy.
My God, I LOVED this book! Mae Wood drew me in from the first page with her simple, effective style. Loved the legal suspense side of the story, which reminded me of John Grisham's earlier books, but this was so much better because it had me madly flipping pages not just to see what would happen with the lawsuit but also to follow the love story that went along with it. Marisa, a stunning lawyer and athlete who still manages to be totally relatable, falls for her client, Trip, who is the perfect male character - just the right mix of hot bad boy and sweet romantic hero. Wood delivers an incredibly sexy read, the intensity between these two is electric and the story sizzles on the page but this author is gifted and the sexy scenes are fresh and orginal and never smutty. I finished reading last night and downloaded the sequel today. Five stars. Just excellent!
