Suzanne Enoch novels are pretty hit or miss for me, but I adored Rules of an Engagement. This is the first novel from the Adventurers Club series where the plot actually revolves around an adventure, which I loved.

Zephyr's personality and even appearance reminded me a bit of Evelyn Carnahan from The Mummy, which is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Just like Evy and Rick, Bradshaw is brusque (well, so is she) and overly forward at first, but slowly wins Zephyr over. My one complaint about their relationship is that Zephyr instantly hates Shaw from their first meeting for basically no reason. If she'd heard a rumor about him or he propositioned her or something, I would have understood her irritation towards him. Instead, she takes offence to the fact that he's "not much of a reader." Like... I get that she's a scientist and an intellectual, but dang. Rude and pretentious. Luckily, she quickly discovers that she underestimated Shaw, and they fall in love.

I came to really hate Zephyr's father. He starts out merely seeming single-minded and lacking awareness, but it ends up becoming apparent how self-absorbed her truly is. I enjoyed watching Zephyr step away from being her father's shadow and start considering her own desires and hopes for the future.

The Mayfair crowd on the ship were characters that I loved to hate. They are petty, self-absorbed, and had a strong sense of superiority due to their English "civilizedness" (is that a word?). They may be somewhat charicaturized, but they represent both the hypocrisy of English society at the time and British imperialist attitudes. Their lack of respect toward other cultures is both frustrating to read and occasionally puts themselves and their traveling companions in danger. I appreciate that Suzanne Enoch is not afraid to insert subtle social commentary into many of her novels.

I found the last few chapters of the book somewhat slow even though I feel like they were intended to be full of emotion and suspense. But overall I found it to be a highly enjoyable read!

Great read that I couldn't put down once I started it. Well thought out story line with adventure abundant. Suzanne is a great writer but I only did 4 stars due to the steamy parts not necessary to hold the readers attention.
Loved this book as with all of Suzanne Enoch's books. This one included great adventures in a very moving love story.
This is probably the best book i've read this fall. I loved the interaction between Shaw & Zephyr. The writing was wonderful, i felt
like i was there with them. I seriously wanted it to continue so that i could read more about their travel adventures. Thanks!
It was ok a little slow
This is an action packed and witty book with well developed characters. Another excellent read that will have you rooting for the heroine and comiserating with her as well.
Susan Enoch is one of my top 5 favourite author's. This is a wonderful historical romance with humor and wonderful chemistry between the couple. A really great ending too. Not to be missed.
Overall it's a good book. However the beginning is very slow! I felt the Interactios between the hero and heroin were a little dull. I like tension and because the heroine was so straight forward it kinda killed it for me. And I felt that there was not much tension witch I love. If you like some steam to your books, it takes for ever to get there and when you get there I was just over it. I personally felt it could be better. It's a enjoyable book but I didn't find it very romantic. But overall it's enjoyable. I was disappointed however
